GUBBIO AND HISTORIC WINERY
Today you will discover one of the most important city in Umbria Region, Gubbio, famous for its history and architecture. This medieval town is characterized by twisting streets, terracotta-tiled houses and medieval walls.
The town’s famous Eugubine Tablets, the only existing record of the ancient Umbrian language, offers a window to Umbria’s ancient history and provides important evidence of an Umbrian and Roman alliance against the invading Etruscans. The ruins of an amphitheater attest to the rule of the Roman emperors, and a splendid palazzos recalls years of subjugation under the powerful Dukes of Urbino.
After the guided visit of the city you will enjoy a tour in an historic winery, founded in 1742 in the cellars of the Bertanzi Counts’ residence. Based on a system of brick cross vaults, the winery takes advantage of a natural ventilation system that makes it possible to obtain a “unique” humidity level, for the perfect bottle aging of the wines. You will end your tour with a wine tasting paired with focaccia bread, col cuts, cheese, porchetta and vegetables.
