Enna is overlooking the dramatic Dittaino valley, with its jutting rocky outcrops and neighboring hill towns. Its position as the highest regional capital in Italy and has earned it the nickname ‘Belvedere’ or ‘Beautiful View’ and it certainly has that.
Enna is a wonderful town to just wander around, soak up the atmosphere and take in the breathtaking views. However, it also contains many historical buildings and places of interest. The Castello di Lombardia is a good place to start, as it is one of the most important examples of military architecture in Sicily. There is also a lovely Duomo (cathedral). Destroyed by fire in 1446, it was rebuilt over the next 200 years and is an interesting mixture of architectural styles.
You’ll have also an hour or so to have lunch and then you’ll be transferred to Taormina.
